These primates are orphans undergoing rehabilitation for future release into the wild. After you’ve admired these fabulous primates, enjoy lunch (own account) and proceed with a visit to the Kuala Sepetang Charcoal Factory.

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Mainland through one of the world’s longest suspension bridge – the Penang Bridge, to the state of Perak. Upon arrival, you will take a short boat to the island to see the Orang Utans. The Orang Utan Island itself, formerly known as Pulau Panjang, comprises of 35-acre area, 15 acres of which has been set aside as an exhibit for rehabilitation endangered species with provision for further expansion for future phases. The Foundation is setup on island which is accessible by boat across a beautiful calm lake. Orangutans are among the most intelligent primates, they use a variety of sophisticated tools and construct elaborate sleeping nests each night from branches and foliage and these species are considered to be critically endangered. A guided tour with comprehensive commentary on the work undertaken and facilities available for the orangutans is provided, as you view the orangutans in their natural habitat. In this place, we humans are the ones in a caged area for safety sake, as the orangutans roam free outside. (60 minutes inclusive of the return boat ride). Thereafter, drive on for 45-minutes to have your lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, proceed to the Charcoal Factory, established since the 1930s to witness the interesting process of transforming mangrove wood into charcoal. After tour, proceed back to Penang.
