Less than 150 kilometres south-east of Kuala Lumpur is Malacca. The historical city centre was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 thanks to the many reminders of its days under Dutch, Portuguese and British rule (as well as others) over the last several centuries. Malacca is also the location of one of the earliest Malay sultanates.
