Eagle Square or Dataran Lang is Langkawi’s most prominent landmark for visitors arriving via the sea. According to local folklore, Langkawi derived its name from the eagle or helang. In old Malay, Kawi denotes reddish brown, hence Langkawi means ‘Reddish Brown Eagle’
